Week One in Cross Country Lake County Gazette

Riverside, Lake Catholic and Mentor’s boys cross country teams were among the top finishers at last weekend’s Willougby South invitational. In the first meet of the season for all the schools involved, Riverside boys finished third, followed by Lake Catholic and Mentor, in the fourth and fifth spots. Massillon Jackson won the meet, and Mayfield was second. Among the local school’s runners, Riversides‚ Zach McBride topped them all, as he led the pack and finished first overall. Lady Rebels soccer team scores late to beat Geneva Lake County Gazette

South High School girls soccer team dominated the possession of the ball in second against Geneva but it took two late scores to put the Eagles to rest and give the Rebels a 3-2 win. The Eagles and Rebels went into the half tied 1-1. The game was kept close by Geneva’s defenders who did a great job of shutting down the Rebels constant attacks downfield. more...

Some of Lake Catholic‚s best runners are back for another season on the boys cross country team, and head coach Eric Schroeder has a few newcomers he is hoping can add to the team’s strength. Last year, the Cougars‚ boys team finished third in the post-season Division I district meet, finishing behind only Mentor and Kenston. Eastlake North 2010 Football Outlook Tribune

When the 2010 season gets underway this week, coaches and players who line up against Eastlake North know that George Gresko is going to throw the ball. As a sophomore last season, the talented Gresko passed for nearly 3,000 yards and completed 29 touchdown passes. Who could argue with letting Gresko air out the ball some more? However, the Rangers finished with a record of 4-6 last season, and Gresko is not hesitant to admit that there will be some changes in the way the team moves the ball this season. “We definitely need to run the ball more this year,” he said. more...
