Tour of Homes has five offerings Lake County Gazette

By JOHN S. BROOM Gazette Newspapers ANDOVER - It will be a day to showcase the history and splendor of the Andover area. Saturday, Sept. 18, the first Andover Homes Tour will take place. Those five locations include a century home dating back to 1840, a 1970s home, the Congregational Church, a historic theater (on the square), and two local gardens. The idea came about after several Andover ladies toured homes during Kinsman home tours last year. They decided to start a local tour, to showcase what Andover has to offer. more...

Walleye tournament reels them in Lake County Gazette

by JOHN S. BROOM Gazette Newspapers ESPYVILLE, Penn. — The oohs and ahhs continued to grow as more fish came out of the containers and into the weigh-in basket Saturday. Lunker after lunker kept ousting the top seeds in overall weight and big fish at the 2009 Walleye Round-Up. The annual Pymatuning Lake Association’s tournament brought in 68 teams. This year the weather was a bit more cooperative than last year. Only fits of rain broke the action on the lake, and fishermen stuck it out from sunup to the 2:30 head-in time for weigh-in. more...

They are currently shallow, spawning and having a good ol' fish-time. That also means a great April rush for fishermen, who are catching fish on just about anything right now - especially at Pymatuning Lake. Local bait shows report fish are shallow (2-5 feet) and are biting a variety of baits. Gateway Bait and Tackle reports fishermen catching crappie, perch and walleye. more...

Area hunters fill up on venison, tips Lake County Gazette

by john s. broom Gazette Newspapers JEFFERSON - More than 400 hunters, outdoors enthusiasts and deer-meat lovers turned out for the 44th Annual Jefferson Nazarene Venison Dinner last Thursday. Not only did they get their fill of venison, prepared in a variety of ways, but also of hunting tips and forecasts from local and nationally-known experts. Charles Alsheimer, a nationally-known wildlife and nature photographer spoke to the assembled hunters, complete with bellies full of deer meat. He said one of the main questions he is always asked is when is the best time to go hunting. more...
